Extreme Heat Policy for GIRLS TEAMS - (BOYS TEAMS PLEASE CONTACT YOUR TEAM MANAGER OR COACH)
Please check the Star Tribune website 30 minutes prior to a game or practice. If the Heat Index is 105 or higher, the game or practice will be cancelled.
Heat Index: MSSLAX Game/Practice Recommendations:
Up to 89° Normal Play
90° - 99° Mandatory two-minute water breaks per half with running time. Each half shortened by 5 minutes.
100° - 105° Mandatory two-minute water breaks per half with running time. Each half shortened by 10 minutes.
105°+ Suspend Play
* First and foremost, make sure your child is well-hydrated prior to game time.
* In extreme heat under the heat index of 105 degrees, make sure you child bring a cooler with ice water/towels to cool off with. Bring extra cold water.
*Parents/Fans - please bring umbrellas to provide shade for yourself.
* Remind your child that they should drink 2 glasses of water each hour (for a few hours) after the game.
Ultimately, the decision to send a child to a practice or game is yours. If you are concerned about heat, rain, etc, and an event is not cancelled, please keep them home - they will not be penalized in any way by the coaches or staff. Thank you!
